Sunday Morning Children’s Ministry
Our desire is to place in the heart of every child an ANCHOR, so deep in Jesus, that as they grow older, they can only drift so far from Him.
We want our kids to discover and embrace a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We will be utilizing a new curriculum (252 Basics) that uses Luke 2:52 as a framework to help kids grow up as Jesus did. Luke 2:52 says, "Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men."
The first thing we’re going to help kids discover: FAITH
We'll engage and encourage kids to respond to what they learn about who God is and to celebrate what He has done for them through worship and prayer. We want kids to decide: I can (trust) God no matter what.
The second thing we’re going to help kids discover: WISDOM
We'll establish the Bible as the source of (wisdom) and (truth). Kids need to know what God says so they can make the wise choice. It’s in the story of God that we discover the character of God. As kids apply wisdom to their lives, God's character is seen in them and influences others around them. We organize each month around one thread—a virtue that we see in God. These threads are important themes we find over and over again in the Bible, so we pick the most applicable stories to emphasize God’s character and His desire to make us more like Him. After we study the Bible stories, we create one clear Bottom Line for each week about how this can look in our own lives. We'll repeat the Bottom Lines in creative ways to make truths memorable and to have the maximum impact on the heart of each child. We'll end each lesson illustrating how what they’ve learned can be applied to their own lives—how God can work in them so they influence the world around them. We want kids to decide: I need to make the (wise) choice.
The final thing we want kids to discover is: FRIENDSHIP
- We'll encourage healthy friendships where kids are given opportunities to (share) and (pray) for each other.
- We want kids to engage in spiritual (conversation) where they can ask questions and discover real answers.
- We want to encourage kids to (spend time) with Jesus during the week since He wants to be their friend and help them grow to be more like Him.
- We want to (challenge) kids to internalize the principles in the Bible story and reflect God's character (virtue) in how they treat others.
We want kids to decide: I should (treat others) the way I want to be treated. Building healthy friendships will help our kids make the wise choice because they'll encourage each other and keep each other accountable. We also believe that kids need an energetic, fun and appealing Large Group atmosphere that engages them in the Bible lesson and worship as well as a safe, comfortable Small Group environment where genuine relationships can be built.
The values that we are incorporating into ANCHOR as well as our youth programs are all a part of a larger strategy that FPCOM is embracing. We call this strategy ORANGE.
