Ada Chapman

Ada grew up in Allenwood and currently resides in Wall. She and her husband, Richard, both attended the Allenwood Protestant Church as youths and were married there 47 years ago. They have three daughters and seven grandchildren; and when they began their family, they searched for a new church in which to raise their children; and it was former pastor, Joe Brady and the friendliness of the congregation that brought them here over 40 years ago. Ada is a graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) and taught third grade. She interrupted her career to raise her children, but returned to teaching as Teacher/Director of The Church in Brielle Nursery School because it allowed her to spend more time at home with her young children, and she remained there for 37 years until .she “graduated.” In her spare time, Ada enjoys walking, surfing the web, babysitting and most of all, being involved in the activities of her grandchildren, who, fortunately, all live nearby.. To Ada, Jesus is her “lifeline,” and she tries to live according to His teachings in her everyday life and feels that she is being used by God in her service as a deacon in our church.

Debby Hedden
Debby grew up in New York and graduated from college with a Masters in Education. She began her teaching career as a third-grade teacher in the inner city, moved to Highland Park, and then took a ten-year leave of absence to raise her four sons on her own after an unfortunate divorce. She has spent 25 years as an English teacher and currently teaches in Wall. Debby is remarried, and she and her husband, Glenn, have been together for 20 years and are now the proud grandparents of three young children. It is most interesting to note that Debby began her association with our church as a drop-off mom, taking her kids to Sunday school and then going back home to rest. Shortly thereafter, Debby realized that there was something missing in her life and that she also needed Jesus. She joined our church and has been a very strong member for 33 years—being actively involved in Presbyterian Women, serving as a deacon and an elder in the past, and again serving another term as a deacon. She and Glen have been on four mission trips and are a great example of the Lord’s command to “Love one Another.”

John Schmidt
John calls himself a local, having grown up at the Jersey Shore. Although college and business took John away from his roots, he returned as soon as he could. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and his Masters at Penn State, he worked in the dental equipment field in sales and management. This career caused John to move throughout the country, but eight years ago, he was able to relocate to Manasquan and soon thereafter joined our church. John has been married for 14 years to Cheryl, and they are the parents of a ten-year-old daughter and a nine-year-old son. John is currently the owner of a company that reconditions sports equipment, and he says, “it is my faith that keeps me grounded and helps me deal with the many stresses of owning a business and makes me appreciate my close-knit family life.” John feels that his service as a deacon provides the perfect opportunity for him to develop new meaningful relationships and offer support to those in need.

John Zoubra
John was born in Germany and spent the first 22 years of his life in Heidelberg and Munich as a result of his father being employed as a teacher for the Department of Defense Overseas School and his mother being a native of Germany. For a brief period, John attended the University of Maryland but then returned to Germany to take a position for the Defense Commissary Agency. It was in Munich that he met his future wife, Jenny, who was visiting from New Jersey. They returned to the United States, married, and started their family. John has worked for the Defense Commissary Agency for the past 26 years and is presently the store director at the McGuire Air Force Commissary. When he visited our church in 1997, he truly found it to be a place “where Christ’s love met his life” and has been a member ever since. John believes that serving as a deacon, participating in Christian fellowship, and encouraging our young people to follow the Lord, brings spiritual meaning to his walk of faith.
