Director of Family Ministries
Purpose
This is a full time position to provide enthusiastic leadership and administrative support to the programs of the Church with focus on children, youth, young adults and families. This position is expected to support and integrate these groups in the various missions of the Church; especially education, nurture, mission, worship and outreach.
Accountability
The individual placed in this position is expected to live an exemplary Christian life and enthusiastically affirm and adhere to the stated mission and confessional standards of the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan. This individual is accountable to the Session through the Senior Pastor and the Personnel Commission of First Presbyterian Church, Manasquan, New Jersey.
Responsibilities
A. Youth Ministry:
a. Develop a caring and friendly relationship with the youth of our Church and their families.
b. Plan and participate in junior high and senior high school Youth Committee programs through:
- Developing and directing the courses of study
- Planning and coordinating group activities
- Equipping and empowering professional staff and lay volunteers in youth ministry
- Developing avenues for youth involvement within the life of the Church community
- Conducting research to locate and secure resources for specific program development
- Preparing the curriculum and instructing the confirmation class.
B. Administration:
a. Work with young people, parents, the Christian Education Commission and advisors to implement and evaluate youth programs.
b. Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly Christian Education Commission meetings.
c. Prepare a budget for each youth event for the approval by the Christian Education Commission and ultimately by Session.
C. Worship Leadership:
a. Work with Senior Pastor to plan and participate in worship services by offering leadership in areas of his or her expertise and responsibilities.
b. Perform other worship duties involving children, youth, and young adults.
D. Children’s Ministry:
a. Supervise assortment of ministries for children to include:
- Sunday School
- Radhouse
- Youth Clubs
- Special Events
b. Provide training and supervision for professional staff and volunteers.
E. Young Adult:
a. Develop a program of active involvement with young adults by:
- Collaborating with appropriate individuals and groups to reach out with programs for young adults
- Involving young adults in the worship fellowship and mission of the Church
- Maintaining a program of contact with college students and engage them in Church life when they are home.
F. Provide resources and programs for the families of the church and reach out with family support programs for the community.
G. Recruit, train and nurture volunteers.
Education/Skill Requirements
A. Skills:
a. Possess knowledge of the Bible
b. Exhibit and share an enthusiastic, personal Christian faith
c. Possess good oral and written communication skills
d. Demonstrate good organizational, administrative, and delegation skills
e. Demonstrate ability to work as a team member
f. Have the ability to motivate young adults to subjects that relate to their everyday live.
B. Education:
a. Minimum of Bachelors degree required.
b. Experience working with youth organizations.
Evaluation
The Pastor as Head of Staff and the Session Personnel Commission will conduct Performance reviews annually. The session Personnel Commission will annually review the adequacy of compensation.
